A first glance at Teamviewer Quicksupport for W10 Mobile

It bothered me a long time that I could take control of my computer with my phone but not the other way round; and that Android users could get support on their mobile devices but Windows users not.

Software-update: TeamViewer 11.0.65280 changed that: you can now also remote control Windows 10 Mobile devices - even though it seems to be still in a preview (read: beta) status.

I don't expect many problems though, because contrarily to Android, Windows hardware in mobile devices is pretty homogeneous.

But let's have a look.

Migrating the Windows DHCP role between languages, versions and architectures

I'm moving a lot of DCs from Server 2003 to Server 2008 R2. The original machines are in Dutch, French, Spanish, Italian, German and Polish - but I want the whole backend to be in English. The following procedure worked out fine, even though it is not for the faint-hearted. I did one move to Server 2012R2 as well this way, so it isn't limited to 2008 R2.

Installing Java on Windows without malware (Ask)

I reinstalled my system this week and almost swore not to install Java anymore, but unfortunately there are still too many apps that need Java (in my case Mobile Atlas Creator). Oracle should be ashamed of their forced bundling of Java with Ask. It is possible to install Java without, but not so obvious.

Windows Server 2008 R2 update to SP1 troubles (surely with DPM)

I had a problem with some server that didn't want to update to SP1. The internet is full of possible solution but none seemed to be working for me. Log files of all kind did not show any error at all, not even with verbose logging of the Windows Installer (through a registry hack Microsoft sometimes uses when troubleshooting).

It took me a week of troubleshooting before I opened a ticket with Microsoft. It took another week of troubleshooting with Microsoft to find the solution. As this solution is hidden in a post on the DPM fora of MSDN that doesn't easily turn up when searching the internet, I happily blog about it as my posts seem to be very well indexed by Google.

This solution is in a thread about DPM, and I too had the problem in DPM - because SP1 verifies all snapshots and DPM usually has a lot of volumes and, accordingly, a lot of snapshots. Still, it might be a solution for other people too if the symptoms are alike.
